Spring in Packwood

Spring in Packwood WA, just outside of Mount Rainier National Park

Looking for a spring getaway? Packwood, Washington, nestled just outside the breathtaking Mount Rainier National Park, might be your ideal destination. In this guest blog post, Emma, the adventurous spirit behind @wake.wander.unwind, recounts her recent experience exploring the wonders of Packwood in late April. Get ready to be inspired and discover why Packwood should be your next getaway destination.

We started the day with coffee at The Mountain Goat to energize us for the adventure! Next, we explored Cowlitz River within La Wis Wis campground for a bit before we headed to our first hike, Purcell Falls, an easy .9-mile hike with a really cool waterfall at the end.

We then found a great spot on the Ohanapecosh River to relax and soak in the sun and waterfalls. We explored the campground trails for this but I suggest hiking the Silver Falls Loop Trail (when the Stevens Canyon Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park is open) to get similar views.

For dinner, we headed to Packwood Brewing. This place had such a cool aesthetic, good food, drinks, and even outdoor seating with a view of Mt Rainier! Lastly, we finished the night with a bonfire at Westridge, a vacation rental in Packwood. We enjoyed a night of stories and s’mores around the campfire.

On day 2 we spent time relaxing next to Butter Creek and ventured to Mineral Lake for a half day of kayaking and paddleboarding amidst stunning scenery. If you’re lucky and the clouds part, you can even catch a glimpse of Mount Rainier from the water!

Stay tuned for a future adventure with @wake.wander.unwind.
