Project Refit and The Roaming Vet Partner for a Transformative Retreat
In early November, Project Refit, a nonprofit for veterans, partnered with The Roaming Vet to host a retreat at Mount Rainier. This event fostered community and connection amid nature’s healing power.
The group stayed at Mount Rainier National Park Cabins in Ashford, sharing stories and support around fireside gatherings. The forest setting offered a peaceful place to reflect and reset.
The retreat included visits to Longmire, Narada Falls, and Paradise, iconic sites within the park. Veterans hiked winding trails along rivers and among ancient trees. They found strength in the mountain’s rugged beauty and in each other.
Tucker Murphy from Project Refit noted,
“Mount Rainier’s incredible setting gave our veterans the space to breathe and bond. Nature has a way of bringing clarity, and this retreat proved again that sometimes the best support is simply being together.”
This volunteer powered organization wants to build a nationwide support network for veterans and first responders. Co-founder James Corbett exemplifies this mission by personally visiting veterans, preventing self-harm, and guiding them to critical care. This hands-on approach underscores the organization’s commitment to providing real, active support.
Members share this dedication. Together, they are creating a network to ensure that no veteran facing hardship is left alone. The vision? A network where veterans find a “base” of their own—small gathering spots, like military bases, for peer support, mental health resources, job help, and camaraderie.
Whether it’s by a campfire or through professional assistance, these “bases” offer spaces for veterans to reconnect, recover, and build a future. This retreat was more than a getaway; it helped veterans regain peace and belonging. Mount Rainier provided the backdrop, but the veterans’ unity made it powerful.
