PIONEER FARM MUSEUM
Journey back to the 1880s to experience homesteading in Washington state. Pioneer Farm is a “hands-on” homestead built in 1887. Visitors can enjoy activities for adults and children, including overnight programs. Take a farm tour where children can engage in chores pioneer children would have done in the log activity cabin including grinding grains, churning cream, scrubbing laundry, and carding wool. Enjoy a glimpse of life from simpler times. Dress up like pioneers. Have your hair curled with an antique curling iron or shave with an old-fashioned dulled straight razor.
OHOP INDIAN VILLAGE
During the 90-minute guided tour at the Ohop Indian Village, visitors learn to do the same things that native people did at different times of the year. The Spring and Summer Village offers an opportunity to try target shooting with a bow and arrow, play a “match animals” game, and use a bow drill. At the Fall Fishing Village you may try your hand at making a slate arrowhead, braid leather, pecking on a stone bowl, help chip out a canoe, play the plank drum, and target practice games. The Winter Home introduces visitors to native-style clothes, a chance to try Salish loom weaving, grind in a stone bowl, make a bracelet to take home and play Indian basketball. All of the seasons demonstrate how the Coast Salish people encouraged game playing to teach their children how to learn, listen, and respect their environment.
Located just north of Eatonville, Pioneer Farm Museum and Ohop Indian Village are open on weekends from mid-March through mid-June, and after Labor Day to the day before Thanksgiving. Open daily during the summer.
