Rainier Mountain Festival Returns with Elevated Lineup

The Mount Rainier climbing community has only one way to end the summer climbing season―with a bang. Each September climbers gather in Ashford , Wash. for the Rainier Mountain Festival for this signature event at the Rainier BaseCamp just outside Mt. Rainier National Park. Returning September 19–20, 2015, this year is slated to outshine previous events with a strong lineup of climbing presentations, gear demos, live entertainment, a BBQ picnic and beer garden, and the coveted Whittaker Mountaineering Post Monsoon Gear Sale.

The Rainier Mountain Festival schedule will include slideshow presentations and climbing and gear demos. Hear personal accounts of Everest from the 2014 and 2015 seasons during the  roundtable Everest discussion with RMI guides who were on the mountain.  With over 15  Everest summiters at the event, guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with today’s top mountaineers including Dave Hahn and Peter Whittaker along with legends such as Jim and Lou Whittaker. There will also be mountain yoga, book signings, and Alpine Games. Festival-goers will be able to visit the food court and beer garden for refreshments, and can head over to the Main Stage to listen to live music.

Rainier Mountain Festival host Whittaker Mountaineering is also holding its much-anticipated “Post Monsoon Sale,” an all-things-climbing sales event boasting steep discounts on gear from Mountain Hardwear, Arc’teryx, Black Diamond, Grivel, Julbo, Patagonia , La Sportiva, Asolo, Marmot, Petzl, and many more.

Top climbing guide Dave Hahn, who has reached the summit of Mount Everest 15 times, will deliver a slide presentation on Saturday, September 19 about his recent guide experiences on Denali. About the Rainier Festival, Hahn remarks, “The Mountain Festival has become a tradition for those of us in love with Mount Rainier and big mountains in general. There is an air of excitement to the Festival as climbers come to scoop up the great ‘season’s end’ deals on gear, but it isn’t just a sale…it’s more of a mountaineering reunion.”

Hahn continues that, “The legends of the high altitude game are sure a lot easier to talk to over a picnic in Ashford than on the glaciers where they earned their fame.”
