Old Calico Workshop

Old Calico Workshop

For decades, visitors driving through Elbe, Washington on summer weekend often hear the sound of a steam engine chuffing or whistling its way through the small town. Now thanks to a local artisan, occasionally the sound of a chainsaw rings out as salvaged wood is transformed into charming woodland creatures, elusive Sasquatch, and even a whimsical gnome or two.

David Franz, owner of the Old Calico Workshop is hard at work sculpting tree stumps into dramatic bears, mysterious coyotes, and other custom pieces. Visitors are invited to browse the collection and even commission a piece at the Elbe location. Shipping items, delivery, and online orders are not currently an option at this time.

The workshop is open weekends only right now (hours may expand in the spring of 2020) visitors can stop to shop for bespoke furniture and one-of-a-kind wood art.
