Mountaineering Community Gathers for Rainier Mountain Festival 2016

Annual celebration in Ashford, Washington to include climbing gear sale, live music, Alpine Games, and talks by world-class mountaineers.

ASHFORD, WASH. (September 6, 2016) – The Rainier Mountain Festival returns September 17-18, 2016 to celebrate the end of the Mount Rainier climbing season. The two day festival includes a climbing gear sale, a raffle supporting the Mount Tahoma Trail Association, live music on Friday and Saturday nights, talks by world-class climbers, Alpine Games, a BBQ, and kids’ activities. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with mountaineers including the Whittaker twins, Lou and Jim, Peter Whittaker, Dave Hahn, and JJ Justman.

The annual festival begins at 9:00AM on Saturday, September 17 with the Post Monsoon Sale in the Whittaker Mountaineering Gear Tent offering over $200,000 worth of gear and apparel on sale at steep discounts. Arc’Teryx, Asolo, Black Diamond, Darn Tough, Forty Below, Grivel, Julbo, La Sportiva, Mammut, Marmot, Mountain Hardwear, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, Petzl, Point 6, Scarpa, Smartwool, and The North Face products will be offered.

Guide presentations are a highlight of the festival including a slideshow by JJ Justman at 10:00AM; an Everest round table discussion at 12:00; Peter Whittaker presenting a slideshow about climbing Mt. Vinson at 1:30; and a discussion with RMI Expeditions guide and 15-time Mount Everest summiter, Dave Hahn, at 3:00PM. Legendary mountaineers, Lou and Jim Whittaker, will hold a book signing at 11:00AM on Saturday.

The Rainier Mountain Festival will also include kids’ activities, a rock climbing wall, live music from Steve Stefanowicz and Sonic Funk Orchestra Band, a beer garden serving microbrews, a food court, and climbing demonstrations.
