Event Details

The annual Wilkeson National Handcar Race has a fun way of celebrating their railroad and mining history.

Ever seen old-fashioned handcar in a movie or a cartoon? First built in the 1860’s handcars were used at railroads. Typically the units are started by a push then the handcars are powered solely by grit and determination as two people pump the handcar down the track. On the third Saturday in July each year, you can see a good-spirited race in the small town of Wilkeson, Washington.

The annual Wilkeson Handcar Races occur on the third Saturday in July each year. Coupled with a parade, food vendors and other events, the fun takes over the entire town.
