It’s a tradition that spans nearly 50 years, the Annual Wilkeson Handcar Races celebrate railroad and coal mining history.

 

Wilkeson National Handcar RaceHeld on the third Saturday in July each summer visitors can experience a fun event that brings history back to life. Held on the original railroad tracks laid in the 1870s, contestants work to move a handcar to the finish line. There is no admission fee or cost to attend. This festival celebrates the railroad and coal mining history in the historic town of Wilkeson.

Enjoy a small-town parade, food and vendor market, kids games, live entertainment, and the handcar races. Vendors open at 9:00 am, the parade begins at 11:00 am and after the parade, the race gets rolling, literally! The handcar races is a family-friendly event for all ages.  

Wilkeson is five miles south of Buckley on State Highway 165.
