Celebrate Halloween with a Ghostly 5K Trail Run
Travel to the “Gateway to the Carbon Glacier” for a Ghostly trail run/walk through moss covered trees, past historic Coke Ovens and more. Organized by All Things Fun Sports! the Ghostly 5K Trail Run starts and finishes at historic Coke Oven park in Wilkeson, Washington. Packet pickup will be held Thursday, October 27th from 4:30 PM-7:00 PM at the South Sound Running store located at 115 Meridian S. Puyallup, WA, 98371.
About the area
Long before the first prospectors found coal in 1860’s the area of Wilkeson was part of the ancestral lands of the Nisqually, Puyallup, and Muckleshoot tribes. The discovery of coal deposits brought miners, brothels, and the railroad to town. A sandstone quarry, logging operations, and bootleggers would follow. It’s easy to imagine ghosts of the early pioneers, the town once had a reputation for being the “toughest town west of Butte, Montana.” Today the town of Wilkeson boasts a famous pizzeria, popular soda shop, first-class coffee house and boutique shopping.

After the Race
After the 5K is over head over spend the day seeing the historic sites in this former mining town. Snap a selfie at the whimsical “Eggs and Bacon” skate park. Browse the local boutique the Happy Sew Co. Drive over the historic Fairfax bridge that spans the Carbon River. Explore the Carbon River area in beautiful Mount Rainier National Park. Buy a slice of what the Seattle Times declared to be the “Best Pizza in Washington State” at the Carlson Block. Doors at the Carlson Block open at 3:00 PM.
