Elbe Multi-Strada Loop Ride 2020

may 2020

17may9:00 AM1:00 PMElbe Multi-Strada Loop Ride 2020May 17th marks the annual Elbe Multi-Strada Loop Ride, a 50-mile biking event through the Pack Forest and Elbe, Washington.

Event Details

The Elbe-Mult-Strada Loop is a 46.8 mi./4100 ft. elevation. self-supported group bike ride, 22 miles of which are on gravel roads/rail-trails around the Pack Forest and Scott Turner/Eatonville National and Stoner roads.

The event starts and finishes in Elbe, Washington at the corner of 541st St E and 181st Ave Ct E, across from the fire station. (Attendees please carpool if possible and park off the road in that area.)

While this endurance event is not considered to be technical, riders should still expect the gravel roads to be anywhere from pot-holed to smooth. In 2019 new gravel was laid down on the Scott Turner Road which made it even more of a challenge (mercifully not on the steepest parts of the climb). Mountain bikes, ‘cross bikes, road bikes with minimum 32mm tires recommended should suffice but each will have a disadvantage somewhere along the route. A note on gearing — while this is a very personal choice, the event founder suggests at least a 1:1 ratio. Lower may be better. A fairly strong climber suggests that for the steepest part of Scott Turner, a 34×32 low gear has barely been enough, it’s steep. And potentially loose.

See http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6669229 or https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/8604828 for the route. Please take note of the hard-right coming out of Pack Forest onto the Bud Blanchard trail.

This is NOT a race*, but also not a leisurely stroll. This is also NOT a no-drop ride. Go at your own pace. Riders will meet up for a no-host lunch after the ride at the Elbe Bar and Grill (good burgers!) to regale over the ride and other adventures. The route will NOT be marked. GPS navigational aids are recommended. Cue sheets will be available at the start. The route is not complex, but there are a couple of turns that could make a BIG difference in your ride distance if you miss them. Again, having your preferred navigational aid (with the route pre-loaded) is highly recommended.

All riders will be asked to sign a standard waiver form prior to rolling out. * Mike Pruitt has coined the term “rade” to describe this type of outing — it’s more than a ride, less than a race. Some people will count placings and times, but mostly this event is for bragging rights, grit and ego points only.
