Guided Overnight Camping & Backpacking Trips

Q: I’d like to go on more overnight camping and backpacking trips at Rainier. I’m nervous to do this solo. Are there any guided groups I can plug into this summer?

Yes! REI offers guided hiking and camping trips in Mount Rainier National Park. The trips are typically 4 days in length, and group size is limited to 10 people. It takes a minimum of 4 people to make the trip happen.

Experienced guides lead groups on hikes that showcase iconic views, expansive scenery including seeing glaciers, and wildlife sightings.

The REI website spells out the type of milage participants are expected to hike each day. Along with pricing, the gear list, itinerary, and reviews are all published online. The gear list is quite helpful, it delineates gear packed by REI versus what individual campers are required and optional recommended equipment to bring. Trips typically depart from July through September.

The 2022 price is $1,599 for REI Members and $1,899 for non-members. Price includes meals. The price is subject to change, please check the REI website for more information. Note, the price does not include airfare, airport transfers, pre or post-trip lodging, or alcoholic beverages. (Gratuity for the guides is always welcome but not required.)
