Packwood, WA Autumn in Packwood: colors change, elk bugle, and the Arts Festival celebrates beauty in sight and sound. The 2008 Packwood Arts Festival, October 11th & 12th, is its 10th annual celebration of human creativity in fine art, crafts and music, and will once again ignite the public’s art appreciation and imagination!
The Art Exhibit is a juried show this year, with 1st & 2nd place Best of Show awards conferred by Dr. Bernie Blehawho holds academic degrees in Graphic Design, Printmaking and Education. The viewing public can still vote for their favorite works of art and determine winners of People’s Choice awards, and the venue is the same as previous years, Packwood’s Community Hall, 12935 US Highway 12. Hours are Saturday 10 to 5, and Sunday 10 to 4; voting for People’s Choice must be done before noon on Sunday, and results will be posted at two o’clock.
Craft Show organizers decided to give their artisans a bit more elbow room this year, to better accommodate the shoppers and shop-talkers. It’s at the Packwood Senior Center once again, adjacent to the Community Hall. Shirley Phanco will be serving lunches and desserts in the amiable atmosphere furnished with crafts such as dried flowers, handmade candles and jewelry, stained glass, fine knitting, and much more. Hours are 10 to 5, both Saturday and Sunday.
The Festival’s Concert will feature chamber music performed by members of The Seattle String Ensemble. It will be staged at the Packwood Community Presbyterian Church, 13096 US Highway 12, on Saturday evening at 7 o’clock. Tickets can be purchased at the Festival’s Art Exhibit and at the Concert door, or in advance at these Packwood businesses: Butter Butte Coffee Company, Northwest Expressions, Packwood Spirits, and Windermere Mountain Valley Realty. Prices are $12 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under.
The 10th Annual Packwood Arts Festival is sponsored by Packwood Cultural Council and Packwood Improvement Club.
