Tent and RV Camping in Mt. Rainier National Park

Spend the night camping the in the scenic lowland forests of Mt. Rainier National Park. Although campsites are available on a first come, first served basis, you can reserve sites at the Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh campgrounds by visiting recreation.gov. For White River Campground info, call (360) 569-2211 x6030.

Three campgrounds (Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh and White River) are RV accessible while Mowich Lake offers tent-only camping.

NOTE: Ipsut Creek Campground (map) is now being managed as a backcountry camp and requires a wilderness permit. You can obtain a backcountry camping permit at the Carbon River Ranger Station. The former Sunshine Point campground is closed due to 2006 flood damage.

Backcountry Camping Inside the Park

All overnight backcountry camping at Mt. Rainier requires a permit.

  • During the summer, permits can be obtained at ranger stations in the park during their hours of operation. These locations include, the Longmire Wilderness Information Center at Longmire, the Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise, the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center at Ohanapecosh, the White River Wilderness Information Center at the White River Entrance, the Sunrise Visitor Center at Sunrise and the Carbon River Ranger Station at the Carbon River Entrance.
  • During the winter months, permits can be obtained at the Longmire Museum, open every day and at the Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise on the weekends. Self-registration is available at the Carbon River Ranger Station, Ohanapecosh Ranger Station, and the Highway 410 entrance arch at the park's north boundary. Winter camping at the mountain ends by May 15th each year.
